Head of Strategic Projects
A Head of Strategic Projects is required for a leading, London-based professional services firm. The Head of Strategic Projects will be tasked with establishing the structure and framework for the management of the firm’s portfolio of strategic projects and the provision of Project and Change Management resource.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior portfolio and project management professional to develop new PMO/PPM capabilities from the ground up and integrating them effectively into a fast-paced organisation in a challenging market.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will support the director in establishing the Portfolio Project Management (PPM) structure and framework and will subsequently manage the strategic project portfolio
- Establishing the PPM structure and framework including for pipeline management, resource management, change control, and risk and financial management
- Managing the portfolio to ensure it remains aligned to the strategic objectives and optimised to ensure maximum return on investment
- Providing Change Management expertise and support to strategic project leads
- Monitoring progress, conducting periodic portfolio reviews and reporting progress on a regular basis
- Establish Project and Programme Management standards and supporting tools and techniques
Experience:
- Experience of setting up PMO/ PPM structure and framework – highly desirable
- Experience of Programme and Project management at a senior level
- Professional services/legal sector experience – highly desirable
- Project Management accreditation
Knowledge and technical skills:
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to elicit collaboration from senior management and other key stakeholders and move toward a common vision or goal
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, with excellent planning skills
- A strong understanding of Project and Programme Management systems, methodologies, tools and techniques
- Record of successful delivery of projects/programmes at an enterprise level
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated diplomacy and sensitivity to diverse business cultures
- Ability to utilize relevant software applications (Such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)
